Night Trap Coming To Switch Despite Nintendo Saying It Would Never Come To Its Consoles 25 Years Ago
Night Trap, the controversial Sega CD FMV game from 1992 is coming to Nintendo Switch this summer from Limited Run games, which is remarkable for a number of reasons.

First of all, the fact that Night Trap is seeing a re-release at all is interesting. You can read more about its release on other platforms here. The main reason its Switch release is particularly interesting is because in 1993, the game was the subject of a United States Senate committee hearing about violence in video games. Nintendo's senior vice president at the time, Howard Lincoln, appeared in front of the committee and said Night Trap would never appear on its consoles because the game didn't pass Nintendo's guidelines. Night Trap's designer, Rob Fulop, later clarified that Lincoln was referring more the technical limitations preventing that game from appearing on technical consoles.
Regardless of what Lincoln was specifically referring to in its statement, the game will finally come to a Nintendo console this summer in both digital and physical forms.
Our Take
This is an odd turn of events, but Night Trap's reputation did always precede its actual content. There are certainly games with more offensive content in them. It's a little late, but I am sure Rob Fulop is happy this is finally happening.
