Rumor: Call Of Duty Black Ops 4 Revamping Multiplayer To Be More Like Overwatch

CharlieINTEL, the most well-known site for Call of Duty news and rumors, is reporting a rumor that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is undergoing changes that make the multiplayer more like another Activision-Blizzard property: Overwatch.

The rumor, which is sourced from a Twitter account of a user that claims to be a journalism student in the UK, seems to agree in parts with charlieINTEL, which claims that they too have heard that Treyarch has been testing multiplayer that is more akin to Overwatch. The rumor states that Black Ops 4 is focusing on different heroes with different abilities, a removal of perks, and an emphasis on kill streaks to unleash character-altering skills.

Both the rumor and charlieINTEL have heard that these things fell flat with playtesters and are being walked back to some extent, though charlieINTEL says they are not able to verify anything about development of multiplayer being chaotic. The rumor states Treyarch is pulling back on these changes to more closely resemble Black Ops 3's multiplayer.

Activision announced Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 last month and is preparing for a full reveal of the game on May 17. Recently, Polygon reported that the game will lack a single-player campaign and may instead have a Battle Royale mode to take its place.

Our Take
Overwatch is extremely successful, so I wouldn't be surprised if an edict came down to start morphing a seemingly already experimental Call of Duty year into something a little different. That said, it sounds like playtesters hated it, so it might not even be anything like that description come October.
